This is a translation report.The translation material comes from the book Chinese Literature,Ancient and Classical written by French sinologist André Lévy.The book composed of four chapters,about 50,000 words,is a representative overseas sinological work.The translation material,Chinese Literature,Ancient and Classical,presents a microcosm of Chinese ancient literature by citing massive contents from ancient poetry,prose,fictions and dramas.In this report,the author takes the E-C translation of overseas sinological works as a breakthrough point,systematically reviewing and summarizing the difficulties and challenges encountered during the translation and the relative solutions adopted starting from three major respects: translator's qualifications,translator's ethics and back-translation.Besides,the author also analyzes the issues that should be focused by translators engaged in the E-C translation of overseas sinological works.Hopefully,this will offer some references to translators who are occupied with the translation of such works in the future.This report consists of five parts.In the first part,the author of this translation report briefly presents the background and significance of the report and introduces the concept of overseas sinology.In the second part,she offers a general description of the preparation before translation,the whole translation process and the problems based on the analysis of the source text and the target readers.In the third part,she makes a detailed review of the theoretical background involved in this report.In the fourth part,from the perspective of overseas sinology,she uses specific examples to discuss the specific strategies that a translator should apply when translating the overseas sinological works into Chinese from translator's qualifications,translator's ethics and back-translation.In the fifth part,she gives some reflections on this translation practice and some suggestions for future studies.
