Effects Of Adult Attachment On Professional Psychological Help-seeking

In order to understand the related factors affecting the professional help-seeking,this paper explores the relationship between adult attachment and the professional help-seeking from two characteristics of attachment,aiming at improving the utilization rate of psychological counseling.This study consists of three parts: In the first study,1657 adults in Tianjin were selected by the convenient sampling method and the questionnaire survey method was used to revise the version of the attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help scale-short form(ATSPPH-SF).The second study used a combination of questionnaires and 2(priming group: attachment security group,control group)× 2(target type: positive psychological help-seeking related words,negative psychological help-seeking related words)mixed experimental design to study the impact of attachment security priming on attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help.In study 3,1200 adults were sampled nationwide to explore the relationship between trait safety attachment and psychological help-seeking,and the relationship between attachment style,attitude and intention to seeking professional psychological help was further explored through structural equation model.The results show that:(1)The revised ATSPPH-SF has good reliability and validity,which can satisfy the domestic demand for relevant research and application.(2)Safety attachment can temporarily initiate the task of recalling and writing in the laboratory context,which has a positive impact on the attitude toward seeking professional psychological help.(3)Individuals' attitudes towards seeking professional psychological help differ in gender,educational background and place of origin.Women,individuals with higher educational background and students from cities and towns have more positive attitudes towards seeking professional psychological help.(4)The stable attachment traits of individuals can predict their attitudes toward seeking professional help,that is,attachment avoidance has more negative attitudes toward professional psychological help-seeking in attachment style,and attachment anxiety has more positive attitudes toward professional psychological help-seeking.(5)Individual professional help-seeking attitude can predict professional help-seeking intention.Individuals with negative attitudes towards seeking help also have lower intention to seek help;positive attitudes towards seeking help will improve the individual's intention to seek help.(6)Attitudes towards seeking professional psychological help mediate the relationship between attachment anxiety,attachment avoidance and intention to seek help.
