English writing skill is a requisite skill for English learners,so studies of the feedback on English writing have always been the hotspot in second language acquisition.Scholars at home and abroad have done a large quantity of research on instructor feedback, peer feedback and automated writing evaluation(AWE)feedback, but they have not reached an agreement on the preference and acceptance of these three types of feedback. And the majority of research focuses on only one type of feedback, but few research compares these three types of feedback simultaneously. Therefore, this study emphasizes on students' perception and adoption of three types of feedback, filling in the gap of AWE research at the current stage. The study bases on input hypothesis, output hypothesis, interactionists hypothesis and cognitive conflict. Both the quantitative and qualitative methods are adopted, such as writing tests,a questionnaire and interviews,in order to investigate students' perception and adoption of three types of feedback. Two research questions are put forward: 1)What are students' perception of teacher, peer and Pigai feedback, which includes students' attitudes, perceived effectiveness and acceptance? 2)What are students' adoption of teacher, peer and Pigai feedback? Is there any difference in the adoption of correct or incorrect feedback?Participants were 56 freshmen from a university in Shanghai taught by the same teacher in an English course, during which they had to finish three writing tasks.Different types of feedback were used so as to provide thorough experiences. At the end of the course,a questionnaire was distributed to them to investigate students' perception of different feedback, and writing data were collected and analyzed to have an understanding of their adoption of different feedback. The research results indicated that students preferred instructor feedback to peer feedback and Pigai feedback, and the combined feedback was more popular than single feedback on the whole. From the perspectives of language expression, discourse structure, logical content and mechanics, students perceived that instructor feedback was the most effective type while peer feedback was the least effective one.Students were more willing to accept instructor feedback but less willing to accept peer feedback or Pigai feedback. In the actual writing, students' adoption of instructor feedback was the highest, followed by peer feedback and then Pigai feedback. Therefore,in order to effectively improve students' writing proficiency, teachers should have a better understanding of the merits and demerits of different feedback, and make compensation with each type of feedback by combining different types of feedback in the writing instruction.
