During the Ming and Qing Dynasties,with the stability and strengthening of the central government in Guizhou,all kinds of school education in Guizhou had achieved unprecedented development.While the Qing Dynasty was the heyday of traditional education development in Guizhou,in addition to the Qing government’s established school in Guizhou,it is also inseparable from the support of local gentry.This thesis takes gentry as the research object,exploring the various activities of gentry in local education construction in order to reveal the roles and effects of gentry in the local education construction.Gentry as a "privileged" class in the local society,their status are given by the state,so that they can get the courtesy and attention of local officials in the local society,therefore,they are qualified to discuss local public affairs with local officials,and also the subject of local officials’ consultation.At the same time,as the representatives of Confucian culture in the local society,they also showed a proactive attitude in various local academic affairs,by serving as teachers,starting old-style private schools,donating and building local schools and colleges,raising local teaching funds or assisting local officials have organized various educational programs and so on,which actively promote the development of local education.In the Qing Dynasty,Guizhou gentry participated in local education construction through various ways.It not only cultivated a large number of talents for the locality,promoted the improvement of local educational resources,but also made up for the shortage of state power in local education construction,it is an important force in the development process of local education.At the same time,as the core of the folk school power,their contributions have also been affirmed and praised by officials and the public,which is conducive to the improvement of their social prestige.
