A Study Of Narrative Discourse On Chinese Classical Dance

Under the context of cultural globalization,Chinese classical dance,as a kind of dance style aiming to inherit Chinese tradition,is facing a series of challenges about how to emphasize the Chinese cultural image and how to tell China’s stories well to the world.The thesis utilizes the theory of dance narratology to illustrate how Sun Ying to tell,reflect and present historical events by narrative teniques and methods.The thesis is divided into five parts.In the introduction,the thesis discusses the definition of the narrative discourse of Chinese classical dance.Meanwhile,the thesis argues that the research of dance narratology on Chinese classical dance and Sun Ying is short of discussion in terms of the literature review.According to the first chapter,the thesis focuses on describing the historical reenactment of Sun Ying’s artistic creation.One the one side,Sun Ying emphasises the historicity of dance materials,thus he draws many materials on carving stones in Han dynasty.On the other side,he does not give up the reconstruction of dance theme to express his own view of life.He focuses on the narrative theme is “Le Sheng” that is the Chinese traditional conception and means that people have optimistic attitude towards life whatever they experienced.The second chapter is a dominant part of the thesis and decribes mainly about the multidimensional construction of dance narratology for Sun Ying’s dance pieces.He features Chinese historical image by reconstructing body languages of Chinese classical dance,strengthening linear narrative structure and utilizing omniscient narrative perspective.In the third chapter,the thesis argues that Sun Ying constructs the classical artistic conception,namely “Yijing” by combing various narrative elements including poetry,music and contemporary scenic design.In the conclusion,the thesis discusses the value and enlightment of Sun Ying’s artistic creation.He initiated the approach about reenacting historical materials for Chinese dance creation.Besides,he utilizes multiple narrative medias to strengthen narrative tension.To sum up,researching on the narrative discourse of Chinese Classical Dance does not study how to narrate a story solely,it means how to pursuit the meaning of Chinese classical dance and realize the effective communication with spectators.Sun Ying widens our knowledge about Chinese ancient dance in order to embody the aesthetic dimension of Chinese classical dance.Therefore,we should rediscover the cultural treasure of history and re-think how to narrate history of Chinese dance.By this way,we can obtain more artistic enlightment between Chinese classical dance and the variety of world dance culture in the world.
