Similarities And Differences Between The Image Logic And Narrative Methods In《The Sattva Jataka》and《The Garden Of Eden》 | | Posted on:2020-11-06 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Y L Yang | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2415330599454788 | Subject:Fine Arts | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | The development of Chinese and foreign art has basically gone through two main stages-religious art and non-religious art.The division of these two stages is marked by the emergence of independent artists and independent works of art.The emergence of independent artists and works of art in China can be roughly defined as the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties,while in Europe it was roughly in the Renaissance.Before that,art creation existed as an integral part of religion.It transformed religious thoughts and stories into visible visual images.People’s religious experience often came from these visual images rather than real religious classics.Saga Bensheng and Garden of Eden,which will be discussed in this paper,are works with the above religious functions in the period when religions and non-religious Arts in the East and the West are separated.Because they all belong to the specific period of their respective divisions,Saga Bensheng and Eden are both religious paintings,but they are incompatible with their previous religious art works of the same subject.To a certain extent,they break through the norms and formulas of previous religious paintings,and begin to incorporate the creator’s own story into the picture.The comprehension of plot and even doctrine,to a certain extent,began to show the expression of "independent self" as described by Mr.Li Zehou(Li Zehou’s Course of Beauty).They represent the transformation process of their painting sequence driven by concepts,technology and external influences,which is one of the clues connecting religious art before and after the separation.Although they stand on similar time nodes in their similar transformation process,they are full of technical and conceptual differences in the presentation of intention,the understanding of time concept and even the arrangement of picture structure,which will be the focus of this paper.This paper first analyses the cultural and religious backgrounds of Saga Bensheng and Garden of Eden,discusses their textual origins and religious backgrounds,and then analyses the functional and subjective problems that each religious painting can notescape.After making the above-mentioned paving,this paper focuses on the analysis of the different pictorial expressions,different pictorial structures and different painting time concepts in Saga Bensheng and Garden of Eden.Although the two works have similar backgrounds,there are more differences between them.This paper aims to analyze the different image logic and narrative modes of these two works which are in similar intervals at the time nodes,and to explore the conceptual factors and their specific effects behind these two different image logic and narrative modes. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | 《The Sattva Jataka》, 《The Garden of Eden》, Image Logic, Narrative Methods | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
