The severe situation of global environmental problem has aroused widespread concern about environmental protection from all sectors of society, and more and more enterprises have begun to present their corporate image to the public by releasing Corporate Environmental Responsibility Report(CERR).Besides, the research of CERR mainly focuses on its purpose, development and the comparison between different countries. In recent years, some linguists begin to apply linguistic theories to CERR analysis. However,as a typical discourse analysis theory,Critical Discourse Analysis(CDA)is rarely used in this field. Therefore, the current study tires to conduct a contrastive study on CERR of Huawei and Apple under a combined framework of Fairclough’s three-dimensional theoretical framework and the basic theories of Contrastive Linguistics(CL)so as to reveal their similarities and differences in linguistic level, and then analyzes CERRs from textual, discursive practice and social practice levels of CDA.Besides, this thesis also attempts to explain the reasons of differences from the perspective of intercultural communication. The present thesis collects respectively 10 years’ CERRs from 2007 to 2018 of Huawei and Apple as research object.By combining qualitative and quantitative methods, this thesis makes a contrastive study from three aspects of lexical contrast, textual contrast and pragmatic contrast.Through the research,in textual level,it is found that Huawei often uses AP to enhance the vivid description of text, while Apple tends to use NP and the extended meaning of nouns and verbs to enrich text.In discursive level, although stakeholders play an increasingly important role in fulfillment of corporate social environmental responsibility, the information on them in CERRs of Huawei and Apple is not sufficient. In social practice level, economic factor and cultural factor have influence on CERRs’ expression and structure. In addition, the differences in lexical, textual and pragmatic levels are mainly caused by different cultural context in the two countries. |
