Nowadays,with the continuous development of modern science and technology,especially the development of computer application technology,human society has stepped into the information era featured with knowledge explosion.Under this background,the way of traditional reading learning cannot satisfy the needs of people.How to promote learner's effective learning performance in this scenario has become a consequential problem that people need to solve urgently.Hence,many researchers attach their visions to the field of knowledge visualization and explore the use of knowledge visualization tools to construct the structure of knowledge,so as to make the implicit knowledge more explicit.In the past,research on this area mainly focused on two aspects,first,the theoretical part of knowledge visualization,and second,the application part of knowledge visualization which mainly focuses on the application of mind map and concept map.However,the practical research in this field are relatively rare.While,this study bridges knowledge visualization with reading teaching in order to explore the influence of knowledge visualization on students' reading performance in primary school.Based on Paivio's Dual Coding Theory and Knowledge Visualization,the study engages three English teachers and 100 students from Grade five of Xi'an Hi-tech International School(Primary school)as participants.Two research methods are adopted---questionnaire and teacher interview.This study attempts to answer the following questions:(1)What is the current situation of the application of knowledge visualization in terms of user's understanding,acceptance and sensitivity to visualinformation in primary school reading teaching?(2)In the process of reading,what kind of reading strategies applies visualization?After analyzing and discussing the data,main findings can be summarized as follows:(1)Students have developed a better ability to memorize and observe images with visual information.(2)Teachers are aware of the importance of knowledge visualization tools in teaching,but they do not attach importance to the application of knowledge visualization tools from the implementation level.(3)Students lack knowledge about knowledge visualization tools and rarely use it in their learning process.(4)In the process of reading,the application of knowledge visualization can improve students' reading ability.Based on the above,the application of knowledge visualization does play a significant part in student's reading performance and it is necessary for teachers to widespread application of knowledge visualization in daily teaching activities to promote teaching and students' reading ability.
