As a subculture phenomenon,male homosexuality has aroused wide concern of society and literary circles in recent years.Gay writing has also formed a relatively distinctive literary insights in Chinese modern and contemporary literature.This paper is based on Yu Dafu's "Day and Night",Zhou Daxin's "Silver",Su Tong's "Wives and concubines",Wang Xiaobo's "Tenderness Like Water",Cui Zi'en's "Peach Lips" and other works.It has discussed the commonality and individuality of gay writing in mainland China since the 20 th century,and it has also analyzed and elucidated the themes and artistic features of these writers,which through narrative themes,characters and narrative strategy of gay writing.The introduction part mainly combs out the works related to gay writing in the history of Chinese literature,and summarizes the study results of homosexual writing in Chinese modern and contemporary novels,and compares the differences between gay writing and lesbian writing to elucidate the study feature,value and significance of gay writing.The first chapter explores the narrative theme of gay writing.The gay writing contains rich themes,which not only attack the patriarchal and feudal concepts,reveal the emotional alienation in the consumption era,but also shows the loneliness of male homosexuality through describing their embarrassing situation in the family,which also shows the discrimination and rejection from society.Finally,they also expresse some reflection over the power relationship of male homosexuals.The second chapter researches the types and characteristics of gay writing.There are two types of characters.One is the image of male homosexuals struggling in pain.They are falling into predicament which includes exclusion from family,discrimination from friends and isolation from society.They suppress their homosexual feelingsl and physiological needs,choose to compromise or escape,live an unbearable life,become marginalized "heterogeneous",be "weakened","feminine";the other is male homosexuals who have attained liberation from the self.They no longer follow the tide,begin to pay attention to the feelings of their own life,eager to get rid of the shackles of reality and achieve self-liberation.The third chapter analyzes the narrative strategy of gay writing.Authors often implicitly describe male homosexuals as friends,and rhetorically calls the desire of male homosexuals as brotherhood,which is a shelter for their literary creation.Simultaneously,authors also pursues the narrative mode of the late Qing Dynasty's courtesan novels,and ues their implicit style to fulfill male homosexuality,demonstrating the rationality of boy's love.From the perspective of narrative,authors use the zero focalization in the narrative of gay novels,making the narrative more bold and frank.The use of zero focalization makes the narrator omnipresent,which is extremely flexible when it comes to the character's story of homosexuality and their inner secrets.The fourth chapter considers the value of gay writing in mainland since the 20 th century and points out its limitations.The gay writing of modern and contemporary writers is helpful to guide people to understand male homosexuality correctly,know the complexity of gay identity,and it also open a wider reading space for readers.At the meantime,gay writing also has its limitations.Because the authors lack a personal experience for the life of male homosexuality,when describing the gay group,it is easy to fall into stereotypes,making gay writing superficial and losing authenticity.In addition,the vulgarization tendency of the network homoerotic novels not only have a negative impact on young people,but also make the quality of gay writing declined.By combing out the themes,character types,narrative strategies and values of gay writing in mainland since the 20 th century,this paper explores the emotional and survival predicament of male homosexuals,deepens people's understanding of themselves,and also brings a new perspective for readers when they think about male homosexuality,which is helpful to amend perceptions of male homosexuality.The gay writing in mainland since the 20 th century has a unique art charm and deserves more in-depth study.
