In the early 20 th century, the mainstream of Chinese drama was the social problem drama that advocated by Ibsen. However,Yu Shangyuan questioned Ibsen's social problems and took the time to reverse the trend. He rediscovered the value of Chinese traditional opera and sought the integration of Chinese and Western dramas to perform a "Perfect drama." After a century of looking back at the bumpy road of Chinese drama,we found that Yu Shangyuan's concept of drama art and his drama practice at that time was a useful exploration of the essence of drama art.Re-clarifying and re-evaluating them makes sense for understanding the development of Chinese drama and the current development of drama. This article makes a special analysis of Yu Shangyuan's theatrical view, based on his theatrical view and main drama practice. On this basis What are the reasons for Yu Shangyuan's concept of drama? What is the concept of drama? How to practice it in its drama practice? Why is his view of drama still necessary and valuable for research in the present century? Through the discussion of these issues,we can analyze the core of Yu Shangyuan's drama view, point out the dilemma of this and find out the reasons behind the dilemma.Yu Shangyuan formed his core drama concept in the situation of the diversification of the western drama form and the prevalence of social issues, including the reassessment of the value of the old drama, the concept of "national drama" and the importance of dramatic theater. In the process of refining the core values of Yu Shangyuan's drama view,I found that his view of drama is in a dilemma. This dilemma is mainly reflected in misunderstanding and dissociation of his drama, and the inconsistency between his theatrical view and the practice of drama. The reasons behind the dilemma mainly include the influence of the times and subjective perceptions.
