Jean-Fran?ois Lyotard(1924-1998),as one of the important theorists of postmodernism in France, reexamined the traditional logocentrism in the West and played an important role in the development and promotion of the post-modern theory in the West.Discourse,Figure(1971),as a doctoral dissertation of Lyotard, marks his official academic career.By criticizing structuralism, semiotics and Lacan's psychoanalysis theory, this book examines the limitations of discourse, reconsiders the heterogeneity of figure,a non-linguistic thing, and constructs the theory of "discourse-figure" through desire, thus reinterpreting and shaping the concept of visual art. This paper takes Lyotard's monograph Discourse,Figure as the main research object, combines with other related works, combs Lyotard's "discourse-figure" theory in detail, clarifies the connotation and relationship of the concepts of "discourse","figure" and "desire",and analyses the practical significance and theoretical value of Lyotard's "discourse-figure" theory in the practice of contemporary art criticism.,thus reveals the post-modernist literary and artistic thought connotation of Lyotard's "discourse-figure" theory. This paper mainly carries on the analysis from the following aspects:In the introduction part, this paper combines with the "Sublime" aesthetic thought of Lyotard's later period, grasps the early "discourse, figure" theory of Lyotard in the process of the gradual development of his post-modern thought, and then looks back on the "Sublime" aesthetic, reveals the double connotations of "criticism" and "ethics" of Lyotard's later "Sublime" aesthetic thought.Chapter I Semantic Transfer: A "Discourse" Space for Information Exchange. This chapter mainly focuses on the analysis of Lyotard's concept of "discourse",discusses the concept of discourse itself at first, and then analyzes the two negativities of "opposition" and "designation" in the space of "discourse",points out that there is perceptual "vision" in "discourse",thus bringing the logocentrism of "discourse" to the standpoint of body philosophy,Then points out the breakthrough of heterogeneous body to Merleau-Ponty's phenomenological body..Chapter II Resistance to Gaze: The Figural Factor as Subversion of Meaning. After introducing the visibility of discourse reference in the first chapter, this chapter discusses the connotation and interrelationship of Lyotard's "discourse" and "figure" concept at first, then analyses two perceptual dimensions of "discoursal perception" and "figural perception",andthen respectively analyses the subversion of "figure" three levels of "figure-image","figure-form" and "figure-matrix" given by Lyotard.Chapter III "Desire" : The Origin of the Operation of "Discourse-Figure".This chapter analyses the fundamental perspective of "desire" discovered by Lyotard in the operation of "discourse-figure".it discusses Freud's theory of desire at first, and then discusses three levels of cognition structure, thus reveals the connotation of avant-garde art discussed by Lyotard. The concluding part summarizes and reflects on Lyotard's theory of "discourse-figure".After sorting out Lyotard's theory of "discourse-figure",this paper finally reflects on the theory itself, points out that Lyotard's theory of "discourse-figure" is at the turning point of the transformation from the whole western modern thought to the post-modern thought and the promotion from the theory of cognitive level to the theory of perception level.
