Ancient Chinese writing and Egyptian Hieroglyphic are both the self-generated writing systems which are separately created by Chinese civilization and the ancient Egyptian civilization.Comparison is an important way for people to recognize things and the basis for all understanding and thinking.A comparative study of the two kinds of writing systems can not only deepen the understanding of the respective ontology research, but also explore the general rules of the formation of human writings in comparison. The character is the visual symbolic system of recording the language, and the existence of the character is the sole purpose of reproducing the language. The generality and particularity of language and human thinking are the root causes of similarities and differences among writings. Therefore, this thesis attempts to analysis the essential reasons for the similarities and differences between ancient Chinese writing and Egyptian Hieroglyphic in the general process of the human cognitive world, and to prove it in combination with other self-generated writings in the world. The Chinese and Egyptian characters are divided into three categories from the character structure:One is the comparison of ideographic characters. The ideographic character is created from the meaning of the language.According to the different ways of ideographic expression,it is divided into pictographic characters, comprehensible characters and self-explanatory characters.Language is the storage of thinking results.Thinking is an indirect and general reflection of human objective reality. Therefore, human beings can create pictographic characters by means of “painting their objects”,referring to the concepts summarized in language. The process of the cognitive world is "person involves alone",and based on certain knowledge and experience,so human beings can create comprehensible characters that need to be "interpreted" according to the association, imagination and Gestalt psychology.the self-explanatory characters are based on pictographic characters which only in ancient Chinese characters. The reason maybe related to the abstract thinking of Ancient Chinese and ideographic property of Chinese characters are higher than Hieroglyphic. The second one is the comparison of the phonetic characters. The phonetic character is created by record the sound of the language. The language takes the sound as the carrier and the concept as the content. The dual structural nature of the language determines that the character can record it from the sound. The phonetic characters in the ancient Chinese and Egyptian writings are all phonetic loans, and both express the word sound inexactly. However, the phonetic loans of ancient Chinese writing are holistic borrowing pattern, however, the Hieroglyphic are analytical borrowing pattern.Which has something to do with the differences with two languages. The difference between the two languages also determines the different development ways of the two writing. The ancient Chinese characters are inherited the ideographic tendency but Hieroglyphic has the tendency of representing the sound. The third one is the character that records the language from both sound and meaning. The semantic-phonetic character is generated on the basis of the phonetic loans and the demand for exact writing record. It also determine that the ideographic complement and phonetic complement don't have to be exactness in both writings. The lack of exactness of ideographic complement in Chinese writing is reflected in the correlation between its meaning and the word meaning. This correlation is based on the categorization, prototype cognition, metonymy cognition model and metaphorical cognition model.Facts have proved that the similarities and differences between the ways of human cognition are the root of the similarities and differences between writings.
