Reading teaching is a very important part of English education.As the first step of teaching,lead-in can stimulate students' learning motivation,attract students' attention,help students to clear their learning goals and establish a link between prior knowledge and new knowledge.Therefore,great importance has been attached to lead-in by educators.By using the questionnaire survey and interview,this study takes Xi' an Foreign Language School as an example to investigate lead-in activities in the English reading teaching.Specific research questions of this study are as follows:(1)What are the commonly used lead-in methods in English reading teaching of junior high schools?(2)What are the effects of teachers' lead-in methods on students' English reading ?An analysis which is based on the data of the investigations can help to get the following findings: First,the most commonly used lead-in methods by teachers in reading class are multimedia lead-in and predication activities,which indicates that the lead-in methods used by teachers are not diverse.Second,lead-in in reading class can help to attract students' attention and enhance students' learning motivation.However,the link between prior knowledge and new knowledge has been ignored by teachers.Third,the time spent in lead-in activities is too long,which affects the follow-up reading tasks.In view of the above problems,this study explores the reasons and puts forward corresponding solutions,then provides effective lead-in methods for English teachers.In addition,the author hopes that this study can provide effective suggestions for improving the quality of English reading teaching in Xi' an Foreign Language School. |
