English classroom is the main place where students learn English.Therefore,it is an important task for English teachers to improve students' learning efficiency in the limited classroom time.Lead-in is the first step of classroom teaching,which plays an important role in stimulating students' thinking and helps them to establish the connection between old and new knowledge.It is found that the reading materials in the English textbooks for junior high school,which consist of a wide range of reading topics,are the main content of the teaching materials.Therefore,how to give full play to the role of lead-in section in the English reading class and improve the quality of teaching is a topic worth studying.In order to understand the specific implementation of lead-in section in English reading class in junior high school,the author investigates the main lead-in methods,the effects of lead-in and students' views toward lead-in in English reading class in Grade Eight of the internship school through classroom observation,questionnaire survey and interview,aiming to solve the following research questions:(1)What are the lead-in methods commonly used by teachers in English reading class in junior high school?(2)What are the effects of different lead-in methods in the reading teaching process in junior high school?(3)What are students' views toward lead-in section in English reading class in junior high school?The results of the research are as follows.First,the lead-in methods commonly used by teachers in English reading class in junior high school are multimedia lead-in method,question lead-in methods,revision lead-in method and topic lead-in method.Second,the lead-in methods employed by teachers,except revision lead-in method anddirect lead-in method,can generally stimulate students' reading interest,and enable students actively participate in the classroom teaching activities.Third,the importance and functions of lead-in section in English reading class are acknowledged by most of the students.It calls for an elaboration in the design of lead-in section from all teachers.According to the research results,the author provides some pedagogical suggestions for teachers in junior high school,hoping that teachers can pay more attention to the role of lead-in in English reading teaching.Meanwhile,this research will be helpful for teachers in junior high school to reflect their design of lead-in in reading class and adopt flexible lead-in methods based on students' needs to stimulate their interest in reading so as to lay a good foundation for subsequent reading teaching.
