Moral judgment is one of the daily activities of people and has attracted the attention of researchers.In the context of globalization,the number of people using second language communication is increasing,and in many situations,the second language is needed for decision making.According to common sense,people believe that the results of moral judgments should remain unchanged regardless of the language form.However,Costa(2014)and others have found that people are more inclined to utilitarian processing when they are involved in foreign language conditions.The researchers refer to this phenomenon as the moral foreign language effect.Since the discovery of the moral foreign language effect,researchers have conducted in-depth research.The relevant experiments not only clarified the scope of application of the moral foreign language effect but also found the necessary conditions for its existence.Experiments show that the moral foreign language effect only exists in the moral dilemma of high emotional involvement,such as the bridge.For the train dilemma with less emotional involvement,there is no moral foreign language effect,and there is no difference in the judgment results between the two language forms.At the same time,only unskilled bilinguals will show the difference between Chinese and English moral judgments,while the proficiency bilinguals have the same judgment in two language forms.In addition,many experimental designs have also explored its production mechanism,and based on the dual processing theory in the social field,two theoretical viewpoints of prudent processing enhancement and intuition processing weakening have been proposed,which are supported by some research results.According to previous studies,when the moral dilemma is judged in the native language form,people tend to intuitively process under high load conditions.When moral judgments are made in two language forms,cognitive load interacts with linguistic form,and cognitive initiation weakens the moral foreign language effect.So how does the moral foreign language effect change when cognitive load,foreign language proficiency,and linguistic forms work togetheron moral judgments?Based on the above problems and in order to make up for the shortcomings of previous research,this study designed two experiments to explore the influencing factors of moral foreign language effect.In the experiment,77 subjects were selected,among which those who had not passed the fourth level were unskilled bilinguals,and those who had passed the professional level 4 were skilled bilinguals.The study used a mixed experiment design of 2(load: high-low)× 2(language: Chinese-English)× 2(proficiency: proficient-unskilled),in which foreign language proficiency and language form were designed for the subject,cognition The load is designed for the subject,and the dependent variable is the degree of utilitarian processing of the subject.The experiment is divided into two parts,all of which use the cognitive load task to initiate the cognitive resources of the subject: Experiment 1 mainly explores the role of foreign language proficiency in the influence of cognitive load on moral foreign language effect in non-involved moral situation materials.Experiment 2mainly explores the role of foreign language proficiency in the impact of cognitive load on moral foreign language effects in ethical situations.The results show that the interaction between cognitive load and linguistic form is significant in non-envolutionary moral situation materials.The specific performance is as follows: Under high cognitive load conditions,subjects tend to use utilitarian processing methods in English moral situation materials,while Chinese language Subjects in the form tend to be moralistic processing.Under the condition of low cognitive load,the moral judgments of the subjects in the two languages?were not significantly different;the cognitive load,language form and foreign language proficiency interaction were significant,and the specific performance was as follows: for subjects with high foreign language proficiency,at high and low levels Under the cognitive load condition,the moral foreign language effect appears,that is,the utilitarian processing level under different language reading materials is different.In the unskilled bilinguals,there is no significant difference in the results of Chinese and English moral judgments under high and low cognitive load conditions.In the context of involvement in contextual material,the interaction between cognitive load and linguistic form is significant.The specific manifestation is that under highcognitive load conditions,the individual's moral judgments in the two language forms are different,that is,the moral foreign language effect appears.There was no difference in the moral judgments of the subjects in the two languages ??under low cognitive load conditions.The interaction between cognitive load and foreign language proficiency was significant.It was shown that for subjects with low foreign language proficiency,different cognitive loads had no significant effect on their moral utilitarian judgment level,while subjects with high foreign language proficiency were different.Cognitive load has a significant impact on the level of utilitarian judgment.The interaction between language form and foreign language proficiency is significant.It shows that for subjects with high proficiency in foreign language,when reading English materials,the level of moral judgment utilitarianism is significantly lower than that of students who read Chinese materials;For those who have low grades,the level of utilitarian judgment when reading English materials is significantly higher than that of those who read Chinese materials.The interaction between language form,cognitive load and foreign language proficiency is significant.The specific performance is as follows: for subjects with high foreign language proficiency,the interaction between cognitive load and language form is significant,that is,subjects under different cognitive load conditions.Because of different language forms,they showed significantly different utilitarian processing levels.For subjects with low foreign language proficiency,the interaction between cognitive load and language form was not significant,that is,subjects with lower foreign language proficiency were different.The foreign language effect under cognitive load did not appear.In summary,the conclusions of this study are as follows: 1)In the non-involved moral situational material,not only the cognitive load and the linguistic form affect the moral foreign language effect,but also the linguistic form,cognitive load and foreign language proficiency.Foreign language effects also have an impact.2)The cognitive load,linguistic form and foreign language proficiency in the contextual situation material interact to interact with the moral foreign language effect,and the three factors also have an impact on the moral foreign language effect.Therefore,whether it is non-voluntary or involved in the moral dilemma,therewill be interaction between proficiency,cognitive load and language form.Three factors have an impact on the moral foreign language effect.This conclusion not only supplements the empirical study of the moral foreign language effect,but also provides a new perspective for people to understand the relationship between morality,cognition and emotion.
