A Study Of Shen Congwen's Literary Ideology In The Forties

As a member of Chinese modern literary circles,Shen Congwen had distinctive thought about literature.He self-evaluation he is a countryman who didn't believe in politics while especially concerned about life.Avoiding politics stood out the purity of literature,concerning life returned to the essence of literature,“countryman”emphasized his different writing style from others.In the 1940 s,China was turbulent.In that time,different kinds of policies requirements and literary atmosphere were collision with his literary aesthetic thinking which is rapt in nature,life,“love and beauty”,etc.Due to environment that confront with reality so that his works are dominated by essays and literary theories which express his thinking and soul directly.These works contain his abundant and complicated literary ideology.Although he lived in the gloomy and chaotic modern society,he still persist in his thinking,focus on literary aesthetics and preserve the spirit of literature,at the same time let literature as a tool to “cure disease”.The thesis analysis Shen Congwen's works of the forties meticulously and comprehensively.According to his literary aesthetics to explore his literary ideology of the forties.The whole paper is divided into three parts: introduction,main body,conclusion.In addition to the introduction and conclusion the main part are three chapters and eight sections.This research is based on intensive reading of the text,through analyzing works,ears background and individual circumstances to teasing,extracting and summarizing Shen's literary ideology and flowing deformation from his works.It is discussed about following three chapters:The first chapter mainly studies Shen's creative situations in the forties.Analyzing his works' s types and features in this period.Comparing these works with works of the 1920 s and 1930 s to find its changes and the reasons to cause this transition.Analyzing and summarizing main factors have influence on his creation.The second chapter studies Shen's aesthetic ideals: “beauty”,“love”,“god”.Analyzes his thinking about literary expression forms and different art forms withthe three points and he how to consummate his creation of artistic technique.Excavating the connotation of that Shen's literary aesthetic ideal.The third chapter discussed Shen's problems of literature spirits' crisis lead in his thinking about “tool reconstruction” and “tool reuse”.Research his method about saving literature spirits' corruption,discuss his ideals about literature play a role in reuse that people,politics,nation and state.
