Grammar is the basic element of English.And for second language learners,English grammar learning turns out to be one of the most difficult parts in their English learning process.In the past two decades,more and more researchers and language teachers have seen the great potential of corpus in second language learning.And in this context,the corpus-based learning approach has naturally emerged.However,the empirical research on it is still limited and narrowly focused.And there is a need for more empirical researches with lower level students and on wider aspects of language.This thesis attempts to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of corpus-based approach in senior high school English grammar teaching.In this research,the author applied a small self-built pedagogic corpus,which is specially designed for senior high students and the corpus analysis tool AntConc 3.4.4 to senior high grammar teaching.And the research seeks to answer the following two questions:(1)Can the application of corpus-based grammar teaching increase senior high students' interest in learning English grammar?(2)Can the application of corpus-based grammar teaching improve students' English grammar learning achievement?This research adopted the experimental methodology.The subjects of the research were 80 Senior One students who are from two classes of the similar level in Luanchuan NO.1 Senior High School,a county-level senior high school in the city of Luoyang.One class was chosen as the controlled group,and the other class as the experimental group.The two groups were taught by the same teacher but with different grammar teaching approaches.The experimental group adopted the corpus-based grammar teaching approach and used materials from the self-built corpus while the controlled group still used the traditional teaching method and materials from the traditional textbook.The experiment lasted for a semester.The experimental instruments included one pre-test,one post-test and one questionnaire.The pre-test and post-test were used to investigate the effectiveness and feasibility of the corpus-based grammar teaching approach and the questionnaire was used to investigate the experimental group's attitudes to corpus-based grammar teaching approach.SPSS24 was used to analyze the experiment data of the twotests and the questionnaire.The results of the research indicate that corpus-based approach can significantly improve senior high students' grammar learning achievement.Meanwhile,the approach can arouse students' interest in English grammar learning.Lastly,the author listed some implications of this research and gave some suggestions for further researches in this aspect.
