As one of the most important concepts in literary stylistics, foregrounding refers to the writer's intentional violation and deviation of language norms to bring unique thematic meanings and aesthetic values. The concept of foregrounding is introduced into literary studies by Russian Formalism, developed by Prague School and British Stylistics, and finally applied into translation practice by Ye Zinan. As an important carrier of literariness, the translation of foregrounding shows the faithfiulness degree to the source text and is an important indicator for translation quality. The combination of foregrounding theory and translation studies is beneficial to help translators better grasp the relevance of stylistic features to thematic meanings and aesthetic values, thus encouraging them to provide a better translation.Yan Lianke employs plenty of foregrounding language elements in the fiction Shou Huo,which not only strengthen the literariness but also bring challenges to translators. Therefore, great attention should be paid to the translation of the foregrounding language in the fiction. This thesis, based on foregrounding theory, taking the case study of the fiction Shou Huo and its English version Lenin's Kisses and focusing on qualitative foregrounding and quantitative foregrounding, studies the English translation of the foregrounded language in Shou Huo from the perspective of literary stylistics.Three research questions are put forward in this study:what are the foregrounding features in the source text;how does the translator deal with the foregrounded language;what translation methods and techniques can be sumnarized for foregrounding translation. After the analysis,it can be found that the foregrounding in the source text is manifested in deviation like phonology, lexis, dialect and semantics and in overregularity like repetition and parallel structure. The translator adopts three modes for foregrounding translation:preserving the foregrounding, removing the foregrounding and creating some new foregrounding. For preserving the foregrounding, the translator mainly adopts the methods of literal translation, dynamic imitation and compensation;for removing the foregrounding, the translator employs the method and technique of liberal translation and omission;besides, the translator has also made use of literal translation, transcreation and transliteration to foreground some language that is normal in the source text to strengthen the thematic meanings and aesthetic values of the translation. The translator,by means of these three translation modes, has successfully reproduced the thematic meanings and aesthetic values of the source text to the maximum. The analysis of the translation of the foregrounded language in the fiction Shou Huo plays an important role in assessing the translation quality, and is of great significance to promote the "Going Out" of Chinese literature.
