English writing apprehension has long been a research focus in the area of foreign language teaching and learning.However,previous studies have not provided abundant insights into the intensity,types and causes in English writing apprehension among senior high school students in the Chinese EFL context.Given such limits,this study attempts to investigate the English writing apprehension of Chinese EFL senior high school students by focusing on the intensity,types and causes of their English writing apprehension.A total of 108 Chinese senior high school students participated in the study.They were required to answer a questionnaire and 15 of them took part in a semi-structured interview.Taking both quantitative and qualitative approaches,the present study gathered the data from a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview.Results of the study indicated that the intensity of English writing apprehension among senior high school students was moderate.There were four types of English writing apprehension among them,including confidence apprehension,evaluation apprehension,conception apprehension and avoidance behavior.In addition,the causes of English writing apprehension covered three kinds:personal factors,teacher's guidance and evaluation,contextual factors.Based on the discussion of the major findings,this study concludes with a summary of its major findings and pedagogical implications.The limitations of the study and suggestions for future studies are finally provided.
