Alberto Moravia(1907-1990)is a famous Italian writer of the 20 th century.Through the research on the four novels of The time of indifference,The Woman of Roman,Contempt and The Conformist, the topic explores the theme of "sin and punishment" contained in it,and explores the evil and character in human nature. The connotation of crimes such as sin and punishment and alienation. The main part of this paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, which introduces the overview of Alberto Moravia's four novels and the research status of his works at home and abroad. The second chapter mainly defines the concept and scope of "sin and punishment" in Dostoevsky's works and "sin and punishment" in Moravia's four novels. The focus is different from the penalty. The third chapter, first of all, analyzes the "sin" in the humanity of Moravia's characters, which are specifically presented as connivance, evil thought, betrayal, indifference and hypocrisy;secondly, discussing the dual world of "sinners",from dialogue and submarine dialogue And daydreaming from two angles to study the special psychological world of "sinners";finally, analyzing Moravia from the aspects of absurd family relations, irrational living conditions, the background of social change and the decline of humanist traditions. The origin and essence of the character "sin" in the novel. The fourth chapter analyzes the punishment caused by the protagonists and the tragedy caused by alienation. This chapter mainly includes two aspects.First, the "sinners" in Moravia's novels bear the double punishment of physical and spiritual, that is,the physical and mental tortureof morbidity;the second is the tragedy caused by alienation, the characters in the novel.Even if he is punished,he can't get rid of the alienation that has gone deep into the bone marrow, and finally end in tragedy. The fifth chapter analyzes the common aesthetic elements in the works of Tuo and Mohs from the three aspects of absurd existence, dual personality and the theme of "crime and punishment",and explores the organic connection between the two writers. The main characters portrayed in the above four Moravia novels all have the spiritual characteristics of hypocrisy and indifference. This negative and negative spiritual trait is undoubtedly the manifestation of human alienation in a specific historical context. This phenomenon of alienation strengthens the inherent contradictions in human nature, causing people to continually fall into extreme desperation and absurdity, and numbly obey the social customs.Moravia highlights the value of human existence and the contradiction of self with the great power of tragedy. He tries to ask people how to get rid of the vulgar and sinful social environment and build a sincere, healthy and harmonious interpersonal relationship. In addition, the theme of salvation is implied in Moravia's novels, and it is hoped that people will re-establish positive living beliefs and realize human self-worth.
