As a new educational pursuit,ecological classroom is based on the principles of educational ecology.Ecological classroom is characterized by organizing classroom activities with diverse,open and holistic teaching concepts.Ecological classroom emphasizes students' center status and multi-level interactions between teachers and students,so as to promote the sustainable development of teachers and students.The proportion of English reading in the college entrance examination has increased from46.7% to 56.7%,and it is also the basis of the four basic skills of English learners.The training of reading ability is also one of the main goals of English teaching in senior high school.Therefore,reading teaching occupies an important position of English teaching in senior high school.However,there are still some problems that appear in the current reading classroom.For example,in some reading classrooms,teachers neglect the main status of students,and they lack the awareness of designing reading activities.As a result,reading teaching efficiency is relatively low,and students lack reading interests and motivations.Ecological classroom focuses on cultivating students' learning interests and learning methods,so as to improve students' reading competence.Hence,this action research integrates the concept of ecological classroom into English reading teaching in senior high school.The action research applies ecological reading teaching model into senior high school English reading classes,and aims to solve the following questions: 1)Does the ecological reading teaching model improve the teaching efficiency and students' reading performance? 2)What are the implications of ecological reading teaching for present teaching situation? The subjects of the research are 52 students of Grade One from a non-key senior high school in Xinzhou.The research utilizes four instruments,they are reading tests,questionnaires,semi-structured interviews and teaching reflection.The collected data are analyzed by SPSS23.0 and Excel software.The major findings are as follows: 1)Through paired sample T-test,it can be found that ecological English reading classroom teaching model effectively improves students' reading performance,reading teaching efficiency and students' reading interests and motivations.2)The implications to the construction of ecological English reading classroom include: using authentic teaching materials,creating contextualized reading activities,building harmonious teacher-students relationship and implementing developmental classroomevaluation.
