Compared with answering questions, students asking questions in class is a higher level of cognitive involvement. In English classroom, students' questioning behavior can not only promote their oral expression ability, but also promote their development of thinking. With the prominence of students' main position in class, more and more attention has been paid to how to cultivate students' ability to ask questions independently.Through the investigation,it is found that the current English classroom questioning research still focuses on the exploration of teachers' questioning, while the research on students' questioning is relatively lacking. In view of this problem, this study refers to the relevant research on promoting students' questioning at home and abroad, and makes a thorough literature analysis on the current research status of students' questioning in China. It is found that the research on promoting students' self-questioning in English classroom effectively in our country is scattered and lacks concrete operation model.Based on this situation, after comparing and analyzing various operation models, this paper finds that the QUILT model has a relatively complete operation system, and perfectly fits the identity requirements of teachers as classroom enlighteners and guides advocated in English core literacy. As a result, this study takes the QUILT model as the guidance, and study how to improve students' English classroom questioning ability from the following parts. The first part discusses the research background, research purpose and significance, and analyzes the innovation of this research. The second part firstly puts forward the corresponding theoretical basis from the perspective of educational psychology and brain science, and then defines the relevant concepts such as QUILT model, classroom questioning and students' questioning ability in English class, which provides theoretical support for this study. Finally, this part analyzes the current domestic and foreign research on the QUILT model and students' independent questioning related issues, and puts forward the shortcomings of the existing research:(1)Focus on theory, and lack of practice;(2)Focus on teachers' questioning, and ignore students' questioning. The third part is the design and implementation of the experiment. This paper uses the SPSS 23.0 to analyze the reliability and validity of the questionnaire to ensure the scientific and feasibility of the study. The questionnaire investigates the current situation of students' ability to ask questions, including the following six dimensions: students' understanding of the necessity and value of asking questions, students' awareness of asking questions, students' attitude to asking questions, the way students solve the problems after they have problems, and the reasons for students' difficulty in asking questions. The fourth part is the research on teaching practice.According to the implementation procedure and principle of the QUILT model, this paper puts forward the principles, procedures and framework for the implementation of the model from four aspects: teaching design, students' responses, teachers' feedback and methods to promote students' questioning, and the examples and analysis of teaching segments are given. The fifth part is the analysis of the research results. In this experiment, the teaching of the QUILT model has achieved better results.Through the comparative analysis before and after the questionnaire and the results of interviews with students and teachers,it is concluded that the students' learning enthusiasm has been improved, and their attitude and strategy of questioning have also been improved. The following conclusions are drawn:1.QUILT model can improve students' questioning ability in English class.2.QUILT model can improve students' oral expression ability.3.QUILT model can enhance students' interest in learning English. The sixth part is the conclusion of this study.First of all, this part explores the practical problems existing in the application of the QUILT model to English classroom and puts forward the optimization countermeasures for the corresponding problems.Secondly, this part carries on the reflection and the prospect to this study.According to this study, the implementation of QUILT model in English classroom can effectively improve students' awareness and level of questioning. The discovery has some enlightening significance for high school English teaching, especially to improve students' ability to ask questions independently and develop their thinking ability, which is in line with the requirements of the new curriculum standard.
