Kunlun people are a kind of outsiders in the Tang Dynasty.They are dark in skin,small in size,barefoot and wearing Ganman(??)with tropical characteristics.They have been recorded in ancient Chinese historical books and found in archaeological finds of Tang Dynasty sculpture,tomb murals,grotto murals,folk novels and other artistic relics The treasure house of Dunhuang Buddhist art and the Dunhuang frescoes of the Tang Dynasty have also found a large number of images of Kunlun people.They can be divided into two categories Kunlun people in the secular world and Kunlun people in Buddhism.This article takes Kunlun people of Dunhuang images in Tang Dynasty as the research object,and uses the materials of Dunhuang images such as image analysis method,literature research method and comparative research method to explore in five parts.The first part is introduction.Firstly,it introduces the background and significance of the topic selection,sorts out the previous related researches in the order of time and problem-oriented,and points out the existing problems and the direction of further exploration in this article.The second part introduces the process of discovery and identification of Kunlun people in Dunhuang images,and how various kinds of discoveries are connected.According to the total records of Dunhuang grottoes,the images of all Kunlun people in Dunhuang frescoes in Tang Dynasty are sorted out.The third part attempts to explore the location of Kunlun State and the origin of Kunlun people by combining Dunhuang fresco images,archaeological unearthed objects and modern anthropological studies.The fourth part discusses how Kunlun slaves who are engaged in labor service combine with Buddhism in Dunhuang frescoes.The fifth part discusses the social and religious beliefs of the Tang Dynasty reflected by the Kunlun people,and explores the relationship between the Kunlun people in the secular world and the Kunlun people in Buddhism.
