Sumeru mountain is an important concept in Buddhism,and it is the embodiment of Samsara and the carrier of the Six Paths.Based on the literature and images,this paper discusses the evolution of the mountain image in dunhuang area.The article is divided into four parts.In the first part,the author classifies and combs the concept of Sumeru mountain in Buddhist texts.In the second part,the image of the mountain in dunhuang frescoes from 4 to 10 centuries is classified in different scenes.The third part is to deconstruct the mountain image,focusing on the elements such as Dragon and Asura.In the fourth part,we discuss the similarities of kunlun mountain and Sumeru mountain in literature and image.This article through to sumeru image,think 4 to 10 century sumeru images in dunhuang all sample in the image of Dunhuang 249 mural,and think that the dragon pattern on Sumeru mountain maybe affected by the image of boshan censer in Han dynasty.Because there are also many dragon pattern on the handle of boshan censer.In the Dunhuang area,the dragon king,who appeared in the mountain pattern of the middle and late tang dynasty,is influenced by the image of Indian Naga and Chinese Fu Hsi Nuwa.In addition,this article also discuss the theme of Sumeru mountain in Yungang No.10 cave and the relationship between kunlun mountain and the sumeru mountain.
