Internet addiction is an impulse control disorder caused by Internet use. With the increasing of Internet penetration,Internet addiction has become a global public health problem.College students are one of the main groups of Internet users, while for shy college students, they often encounter more problems in real life and are prone to become susceptible to Internet addiction.Studies have found a relationship between shyness and Internet addiction, and shyness predicts Internet addiction. In addition to shyness, research has shown that interpersonal adaptation and self-identity can also affect an individual's Internet addiction. In this study,a questionnaire survey was conducted among 758 college students using the shyness scale, the comprehensive interpersonal relationship diagnosis scale, the self-identity status scale and the Internet addiction identification standard questionnaire to explore the relationship among the four variables of shyness, interpersonal adaptation,self-identity and Internet addiction. The results are as follows:(1)there are significant differences of self-identity in gender, grade, major and household registration;Internet addiction is significantly different in gender and specialty.(2)there were two positive correlations among four variables: shyness, interpersonal adaptation,self-identity and Internet addiction.(3)shyness has an indirect effect on Internet addiction through interpersonal adaptation, and interpersonal adaptation plays a complete mediating role between shyness and Internet addiction.(4)self-identity has a moderating effect on the mediating effect of interpersonal adaptation, and self-identity moderates the latter half of the mediating process.Specifically, the higher the level of self-identity,the less the impact of interpersonal adaptation on Internet addiction.(5)shyness,interpersonal adaptation,self-identity and Internet addiction constitute a regulated mediation model.
