Learning style is one of the important concepts reflecting individual differences of students.English learning style is the performance of learning style in English learning.English learning style refers to English learners'unique cognitive,emotional and physiological behaviors.It is a relatively stable learning way that reflects how English learners perceive information,interact with and respond to the learning environment.Foreign scholars studied English learning style earlier.They have explored the theoretical foundation,type,characteristics and measurement instrument of English learning style.what's more,they further studied the relationship between English learning style and different factors and applied the research results to educational practice.Based on the existing researches abroad,Chinese scholars combined physiological theory to improve the theoretical foundation of English learning style,developed native measurement instruments,and applied English learning style in online and classroom teaching.All of these have achieved remarkable results.The questionnaire participants are 142 sophomore students from a high school in Haidian district,Beijing.And the interviewees are three teachers form different schools and different locations.Through questionnaire and interview,the following questions are studied.(a)What are the English learning style preferences of high school students?(b)What is the relationship between high school students' English learning style and English academic performance?(c)What are the differences in the English learning styles of high school students whose mother tongues are different minority languages?The author hopes that through the research,on the one hand,it can supplement the research of English learning style of high school students in China and help teachers and students to improve English learning effect from the perspective of learning style.On the other hand,the author hopes that it can supplement the research on ethnic minorities'English learning styles in China and provide enlightenment for the English learning of ethnic minorities.There are findings of this study.(a)The overall preferences for students'English learning styles are auditory,systematic and visual.Among them,the most important finding is that students prefer auditory English learning style in perception.In previous studies,influenced by traditional teaching methods and the popularity of multimedia devices,students'overall preference for perceptual learning style is visual.The reason for this change may by that with the reform of college entrance examination in Beijing,schools have increased the practice time of English listening and speaking,and teachers and students have paid more attention to these two basic skills.This makes students'English learning style shows more auditory characteristics.(b)There is a certain correlation between English learning style and English learning performance,but it is not simple and direct causal relationship between them.English learning style is only one of factors which influence academic performance.(c)There is no strong correlation between English learning style and mother tongue.Although the minority students participating in this study have different minority languages as their mother tongues,they have similar language learning experiences and growth experiences.These will not have a special impact on cognition,emotions and physiology.Based on the above findings,this study puts forward suggestions for students,teachers and teaching.Students should know about their own English learning styles and appropriately adapt their learning style according to the learning content to improve the learning effect.Teachers can also learn and understand the relevant knowledge of learning style and take it as a reference factor in designing teaching to improve the teaching effect.In order to cope with the new college entrance examination,students' auditory learning style can be used to improve their listening and speaking skills.
