Interest is the best teacher and it is the inner motive power of students' learning.Only if students have strong interest can they experience the joy of learning.Interest is also important for the subject of English and it is throughout the process of English learning.However,in teaching practice,many teachers and scholars tend to pay more attention to the English learning interest of college students,middle school students,and even primary school students and they ignore the study of secondary vocational students' interest in English learning.In this paper,the author will take students from three different majors of a secondary vocational school in Chifeng as research objects.Combining the theory of educational psychology and learning interest and with her years of teaching experience,the author did a survey through the methods of questionnaire and interview and then found out the answers to the three questions about their interest in English:(1)How do the secondary vocational school students enjoy their English lessons?(2)How much interest do the secondary vocational school students take in English in their spare time?(3)How is the secondary vocational school students' general interest in English study? After answering the three questions,the author then analyzed the underlying causes and at last suggested some strategies to stimulate students' interest in English learning.Based on such background,the research steps of this paper are: first,300 students were randomly chosen from three different majors of a secondary vocational school in Chifeng as the research subjects and some questionnaires were given to them and at the same time some students and teachers were interviewed to investigate the present situation of vocational school students' interest in English learning.Second,through analysis of the results of the questionnaire and the interview,the author then found out the factors of students' current interest in learning English.Finally,according to the analysis of the reasons and based on Krashen's Affective Filter Hypothesis and Humanism Learning Theory,the author suggested some strategies to maintain and stimulate the secondary vocational student's interest in English learning.This thesis mainly consists of five parts.The first chapter is introduction,mainly including the research background and the research significance and the introduction of chapters in this paper.The second chapter is literature review and theoretical basis,mainly including some definitions of interest,theoretical foundations as well as relative researches at home and abroad.The third chapter is methodology,mainly including research questions,research subjects,research methodology and research procedure.The fourth chapter is the results and discussion.In this chapter the author summarized the results of questionnaire and interviews and then analyzed the reasons for the secondary vocational student's current interest in English learning.The fifth chapter is conclusion,including the main findings of the research,limitation of the study and the implications and some strategies to maintain and stimulate secondary vocational school students' interest.
