With the popularization of modern information technology,education workers also constantly update their teaching concepts,master modern information teaching technology,expand various learning channels,and thus improve the teaching quality and efficiency.At the same time,the New National English Curriculum Standard(2017)proposed that senior high school English curriculum should pay attention to the reform of teaching mode and learning mode under the background of modern information technology,make full use of information technology,and promote the deep integration of information technology and curriculum teaching.Multimodal PPT is a kind of teaching method that integrates text,picture,sound,video,animation and hyperlink together,which closely meets the requirements of the new curriculum standard.At present,the use of multimodal PPT has been favored by the teachers,but the relative research focuses on the college field.Senior high school is an important stage of students'concentrated learning,and English reading in senior high school is a key factor for the students' English input.Therefore,it is of practical significance to explore the application of multimodal PPT in senior high school English reading.Firstly,this paper expounds the background and significance of the application of multimodal PPT in English reading class under the new curriculum standard,and then discusses the core concepts and some related research at home and abroad.Based on the theories of multimodal discourse analysis,input reinforcement and cognitivism,this paper analyzes the application of multimodal PPT in senior high school English reading teaching.The paper puts forward the following three questions:(1)What is the present situation of the multimodal PPT application in reading class?(2)What is the teaching effect of this teaching method?(3)What are the problems with the application of the multimodal PPT in senior high school reading class?The research methods adopted in this paper are questionnaire survey,interview,classroom observation and sample analysis.Taking the students of two classes in a key high school of Haidian District in Beijing as the main research participants,this paper investigates 5 teachers and 145 students in the school.The collected data is analyzed by SPSS 23.0 to explore the application of multimodal PPT in senior high school English reading class.The results and analysis of the data show the following conclusions:(1)Multimodal PPT courseware is widely used in senior high school English reading class.The teachers and the students both hold a positive attitude towards the application of multimodal PPT.The teachers' favorite modes are texts and pictures,and the students'favorite modes are videos and audios;(2)The application of multimodal PPT in English classroom owns many advantages,such as activating the classroom atmosphere,stimulating the students' interest in learning and helping the students understand the background knowledge of reading;(3)There are also some problems with the application of multimodal PPT,such as the lack of classroom interaction,the students' low ability of independent learning and fast playing speed of multimodal PPT courseware.Depending on the analysis of the results,this paper puts forward some suggestions on the problems with the application of multimodal PPT in senior high school English reading class.Firstly,the teachers are supposed to pay attention to strengthening classroom interaction and reasonably control the playing speed of multimodal PPT.Secondly,the students should cultivate their own independent thinking ability.Finally,the schools can organize intensive training on courseware making and encourage the teachers to share their courseware.It needs to be pointed out that there are still some limitations in the study,which needs further criticism and correction from relevant professionals.
