Research On Marriage Revolution Of Intellectual Women In The Period Of The May 4th Movement

Marriage is not only the foundation of family establishment,but also the hub of social combination and evolution.If the marital problem cannot be properly resolved,all other social problems will also be affected.At the same time,marriage is a major event for all members of the society.In addition to the fact that a very small number of people cannot marry or fail to marry due to illness,beliefs and other special reasons,the vast majority of young men and women face the problem of marriage without exception.Therefore,the research on marital issues has always been a hot topic of sociology and anthropology.The study of marital problems can not only reflect the evolution of social civilization from the side,but also reflect the overall living conditions of a certain social group in a certain era.The intellectual women of the May Fourth period gradually grew up under the influence of Western new education and new ideas.In the May Fourth period,which emphasized the value of “people” and advocated women's liberation,they realized that traditional patriarchal system and inhuman marriage culture have been the spiritual shackles that bound women for thousands of years.In order to obtain their own liberation and get rid of the shackles of old-style marriage,they took practical actions to fight against traditional marriage customs.First of all,through the struggle for marriage autonomy,eliminating the undesirable customs of discrimination and oppression against women in marriage etiquette and carrying out marriage revolution,the specific way has negative resistance-suicide,active resistance-escape marriage,transform society-revolution.Secondly,starting from the wedding procedures,wedding expenses,wedding forms and wedding system,they discuss the innovation process of the wedding ceremony in the May Fourth period.From the methodological point of view,this thesis adopts the writing method of “to see the big from the small”to start from the individual intellectual women,and examines the contents and methods of the intellectual women's marriage revolution in the May Fourth period,as well as the social influences generated,trying to outline the general situation of intellectual women's marriage revolution at that time,and highlights the impact of intellectual women's marriage revolution on social development.Although the marriage revolution of intellectual women in the May FourthMovement promoted the improvement of social atmosphere,there are still certain limitations in a specific social environment.This paper examines the fetters of traditional concepts,the intensification of divorce,and the polarization of marriage freedom.
