"The brush and ink techniques make a painting," which act as the soul of landscape painting.Gong Xian,the spiritual leader of the Jin Ling painting school at the early Qing dynasty,left an indelible mark on art circle by his unique accumulate-ink method.His painting skills on mountains-and-waters painting influenced the later generations with vigorous and vast styles.To learn the Chinese landscape painting,one is required to take root in tradition,and"imitating" is the only way to experience the ancient spirits of ancient masters.Taking Gong Xian's " Hanging Wall Flying Spring Map" as the penetration point,we studied and researched his brush and ink techniques,summarized and sublimated its essential elements including creative theme selection,brushwork construction,layout and landscape spirit,and applied to personal painting practice.During the learning process,I deeply realized the importance of creation besides tracing their masterpieces."Sketching practice" in nature helped us grasp the laws of natural creation,temper the mind,learn from deep heart by incorporating personal emotions into it,and carry out creative practice.Through the periodical process from imitating,sketching to creating,one can explore own landscape painting style,and further demonstrate the positive significance of Gong Xian's brushwork spirit in the creative practice of landscape painting.
