National English Curriculum Standards for Common Senior High School(2017)proposes to cultivate and develop the core competence of English subject that should be possessed after receiving English education.Learning ability,one of the core competence,refers to the awareness and ability of students to actively use and adjust their English learning strategies,expand learning channels,and strive to improve their learning efficiency.This thesis focuses on vocabulary teaching in context and explores the role of context in vocabulary learning by reviewing the Context Theory and relevant researches,then studies the application of context in vocabulary teaching for three months.Participants in this study involve 85 students from two parallel classes in Jinan University Town Experimental Senior High School.The study aims to explore the methods of presenting,practicing and consolidating vocabulary based on linguistic context and non-linguistic context,and verify the effect on the cultivation of vocabulary learning ability.This thesis focuses on three questions:(1)What is the current situation of vocabulary learning ability of high school students?(2)Can context-based vocabulary teaching change students’ attitudes,channels and strategies in vocabulary learning?(3)Can context-based vocabulary teaching improve students’ vocabulary learning efficiency and application ability?In the course of the study,the author collected data by questionnaires,vocabulary tests and interviews,and put the data into SPSS statistics to analyze.Three months later,the research results were found as followed:(1)Before the experiment,most students were not interested in vocabulary learning.Vocabulary learning only depended on textbooks,and the learning strategy was limited.All of the three aspects indicated that students’ vocabulary learning ability is at a low level.(2)After the experiment,the students’ passion for learning vocabulary is obviously higher than before.The learning channels are extended to extracurricular learning,and the effective vocabulary learning strategies can also be used.(3)Through vocabulary learning training based on context,students’ vocabulary learning efficiency and application ability have been improved.It is hoped that this study can provide a reference for the cultivation of vocabulary learningability of high school students,inspire high school teachers to attach great importance to the cultivation of students’ learning ability,and effectively use different contexts to improve students’ vocabulary learning efficiency.
