Jigsaw method is a teaching method that divides learning materials into several parts and distributes them to students of different levels so that they can master the whole material through interaction and collaboration.By now,few studies have explored what type of reading material this method is suitable for.Because narration is composed of distinct components,the author carried out this experiment to apply the jigsaw method to narration,trying to explore whether this method can improve students' reading ability and increase students' reading interest to check whether the method is suitable for being used in narration reading teaching.In the implementation process,this method is shown as a splitting method,so this study will also explore the cutting method of reading materials.The experiment lasted nearly three months,choosing two parallel classes as research subjects in Grade One of Jinan University City Experimental High School in Shandong Province,with the students' English levels of the two classes being the same.One was the experimental class where the jigsaw method was used in reading teaching and the other was the control class in which a traditional teaching method was employed.During the experiment,the teacher,teaching contents,and teaching time were the same between the two classes.Besides,questionnaires,tests and interview were employed as research instruments and SSPSS 23 was used to analyze the results of pre-test and post-test with the results of pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire being presented in histograms.The results before and after experiment show that applying the jigsaw method to English narration reading teaching in senior high school can produce positiveimpacts as follows.On the one hand,students' reading interest is increased.On the other hand,students' reading ability is also improved.Therefore,applying the jigsaw method to narration reading teaching is reasonable.Besides,reading materials can be split according to the six elements of narration.Teachers should pay close attention to every section of the class and provide timely feedback,fully mobilizing the enthusiasm and initiative of students and acting as a facilitator and guide for students' learning.Due to short duration and limit narration reading materials in the textbook,the study still needs further exploration.
