As a cooperative learning method,jigsaw has been favored by many researchers in recent years.Each student plays an indispensable role in jigsaw teaching.Every student can realize his important position in the group discussion,which urge students to develop their subjective initiative.Jigsaw method can not only stimulate students' interest in English learning,but also cultivate students' cooperative consciousness,so as to achieve students' integrated development.However,the domestic research on the application of jigsaw method doesn't pay highly attention in English reading teaching in senior high school.In addition,reading plays an important role in senior high school English learning.However,it is a big challenge for some English teachers to turn the dull and lengthy reading content into interesting and meaningful class.Based on the relevant research,the author knows about the current situation of English reading in senior high school firstly.Then,the author tries to apply jigsaw method to English reading teaching in senior high school.Finally,the author explores the influences of jigsaw method in English reading teaching through experiment.The research subject are the students who are in class one and class two of NO.1 senior high school of Zhangye of Gansu province.The research instruments are tests,questionnaires and interviews.Jigsaw reading are conducted in experimental class and lasted about one semester.Students could learn English reading easily under the interesting discussions from the home group to the expert group.The analysis of the results of pre-questionnaire and pre-interview indicate that NO.1 senior high school students in Zhangye learn English reading passively with less interest and fewer English reading strategies.Based on reviewing related literature of jigsaw method,the author applies six procedures to English reading teaching.There are assignment of tasks,construction of home group,constitution of expert group,showing results in turn,making a summary and giving feedback and testing of related knowledge.Comparing and analyzing the results of test,post-questionnaire and post-interview between the experimental class and the control class,it found that jigsaw method has a positive effect on students' English reading.Specific findings are as follows.Firstly,jigsaw method can cultivate students' cooperative learning ability.Secondly,the application of jigsaw method in senior English reading can improve students' reading comprehension abilities.Thirdly,jigsaw method enhances students' interest in English reading.However,any research can not be perfect.All of these reasons that shortedstudy time and limited research subjects should be paid more attention in the future research.
