With the rapid development of information technology and social economy,people's working style and learning style have changed quickly.Deep learning has also been paid more and more attention by researchers.Deep learning not only pays attention to students' active participation in learning,integration of knowledge,migration application and creative problem-solving,but also advocates students to engage in meaningful learning and cultivate their higher-order thinking ability.The English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017)clearly proposes that teachers should guide students to apply English reading strategies actively in reading teaching,expand English reading channels,and strive to improve English reading efficiency and ability.Deep learning is an effective way to cultivate and develop students' core literacy,which points out the direction for the development of students' reading ability.In order to improve the English reading ability of senior high school students by deep learning strategies,this research,based on the style of action research,carried out a 12-week study on 54 students studying in Class 13,Senior High School,Shaoguan City,Guangdong Province.This action research mainly explores the following three questions :(1)How is the English reading ability of senior high school students at this stage?(2)What is the current use of deep learning strategies in high school students' English reading?(3)After this research,does the use of deep learning strategies in students' reading improve their English reading ability? If so,in what aspects?This action research was divided into three stages.In the first stage,students were guided to apply the deep learning strategies to English reading and design the English reading learning contracts.At the end of the first stage,the plan of the second stage was adjusted and revised according to the students' questionnaires and tests.In the second stage,students were helped to master the application of deep learning strategies in English reading from three dimensions: pre-assessment,knowledge integration and evaluation.At the end of the second stage,the plan of the third stage was adjusted and revised according to the students' interviews.The third stage was mainly to consolidate the students' overall deep learning strategies appliedto English reading.This action study collected data in a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods,mainly based on questionnaires,tests,interviews and English reading learning contracts.After three stages of action research,the research conclusions are as follows :(1)Before the action study,the students' reading ability is weak.(2)Deep learning strategies are seldom applied in students' reading before the action research.(3)Deep learning strategies can improve the reading ability of senior high school students,which is mainly reflected in three dimensions: reading achievement,reading interest and reading habit.Although this action research has generally achieved the expected goal,there are also some shortcomings,such as fewer samples and shorter research cycle.In the future,the research should focus on expanding the sample size and extending the research cycle.The findings of this action research enrich the exploration of effective ways for teachers' to improve students' English reading ability,and provide some references for the reform of English reading class in senior high school.
