Since Sino-U.S.Trade War broke out in March 2018,the media circles of the two countries have had very frequent discussions and exchanges on trade issues.News discourse with distinct ideologies, reflects bilateral interactive relations, represents national positions, and plays a part in spreading political ideas and shaping national images.Critical Discourse Analysis(CDA)regards language as a social practice, focusing on the relationship between language and power.Among the many models of CDA,Fairclough's three-dimensional model is one of the most popular and systematic analytical methods. This study is based on two self-built corpora--China Daily Sino-U.S.Trade War Related News Report Corpus(CDNRC)and New York Times Sino-U.S.Trade War Related News Report Corpus(NYTNRC).This study focuses on Sino-U.S.Trade War related news reports, aiming to reveal discourse features of related news reports by by media in China and the U.S.and explore the relationship between language and its hidden power and ideology under Fairclough's three-dimensional model. The research conclusions show that:(1)at descriptive level,China Daily tends to transfer positive attitude while New York Times prefers to transfer negative attitude;(2)at interpretive level,China Daily prefers specific and semi-specific sources and direct discourse, while New York Times prefers specific and unidentified sources and indirect discourse;(3)at explanatory level, the differences between China Daily and New York Times at textual level and discourse practice level are mainly due to the differences in the state institutions, social contexts and economic development between China and the U.S.It is hoped that this study can provide language reference to English news reporters and enrich the research of discourse features of news reports under three-dimensional model.
