A Comparative Study On The Translation Of Culture-loaded Words And Expressions In Jiu Guo From The Perspective Of Hermeneutics Translation Theory

As the representative of Chinese modern literature,the Nobel Laureate Mo Yan' work Jiu Guo features distinctive Chinese cultural characteristics and serves as a great medium to promote Chinese culture overseas.Its English version was translated by Howard Goldblatt,a celebrated American translator.And the Russian version was accomplished by Igor Egorov,a renowned Russian sinologist.The book contains a great number of culture-loaded words and expressions.Cultural-loaded words and expressions refer to unique words,expressions and idioms contained in the language of a specific nation.They fully reflect historical backgrounds and cultural traditions of the nation and carry abundant cultural connotations.However,in the translation practice,sometimes culture-loaded words and expressions may become barriers to effective cross-cultural communications.Hermeneutics translation theory emerged in the wave of "cultural turn".The theory breaks through the barrier of linguistic study,enters into cultural field and provides a new perspective for the study on the translation of cultural images.George Steiner's fourfold translation motion,namely trust,aggression,incorporation and compensation,serves as an applicable method to analyze the translation of cultural factors.This thesis takes the perspective of Hermeneutics translation theory and conducts a comparative study on the translation motion and the methods adopted to translate culture-loaded words and expressions in the English and Russian versions.Through a comparative analysis of these two translators' performance in the translation motion and the readability and effectiveness of their translation methods,this thesis summarizes similarities and differences in the hope of providing reference for the translation of culture-loaded words and expressions and the promotion of Chinese culture in the future.
