In the 1970s,the mighty "space" turn in academic circles stimulated rich imaginations of different disciplines on space form.Feminism revealed the deep reasons for gender injustice and women's survival dilemma through the interpretation and application of space theory. On this basis,a brand-new criticism method, feminist geography, emerged.Correspondingly, female writing is also undergoing a "geographical" turn.Female writers' sensitivity and rethinking of space urge them to place the discussion of gender relations in their writing under a unique spatial background, enabling the discussion and reflection on female destiny from the literary perspective to effectively intervene in the social reality and the development process of civilization. When looking back at the writing process of contemporary Chinese women,Wang Anyi's name can never be erased.Although the writer intentionally distanced himself from the naming and definition of "feminism",we cannot ignore the rich and broad "scenery" of female existence and the full and rich female experience and thinking in his creation. This article focuses on the Shanghai writing part of Wang Anyi's novels, explores the relationship between Shanghai,a unique urban space in the text, and women's growth, survival and resistance, examines the position and living conditions of modern women in the works in multiple spaces of individual, family and society with the help of feminist geographical criticism, and analyzes the "space" reasons for the loss of female discourse and the formation of gender inequality. The specific ideas of the article are as follows:The introduction part sorts out Wang Anyi's female writing and research review, and explains the reason why this article still puts Wang Anyi into the feminist perspective under the writer's attitude of keeping a distance from feminism. At the same time,it reviews the research progress of feminist geographical criticism at home and abroad. The first chapter aims to clarify how space and gender are related and theoretically constructed in western feminist geography,so as to prepare for the following use of this critical method, and at the same time to sort out and introduce Wang Anyi's "original scenery"(including her growth environment, time space, etc.)as a female writer. The second chapter starts from the static components of female space, focusing on female body space, private space dominated by family and social public space represented by alley and shanty towns. From micro, medium to macro,it reveals step by step how the gender difference and imbalance between women and men are operated and shaped by space and the differentiation within women. The third chapter starts with the mobility of women's space, focusing on the material and spiritual tests that women face when they move from private space to public space, that is,when they leave their homes, and the growth and resistance of women in this process. It also notes the perplexity and anxiety of the female characters in Wang Anyi's writing sequence in the wandering between "the original hometown" and "a foreign land" under the city of "Shanghai",which is characterized by "immigrant" culture.By analyzing this dynamic process,it reveals the test and influence of social and cultural changes in gender relations on the physical and mental development of women, and presents the dilemma and persistence of a generation of women under the impact of various civilization forms. The conclusion reveals the significance of Wang Anyi's writing of gender and space, that is,her attempt as a feminist historical narrative and her efforts for the ecological construction of gender balance.
