The memoir or biography,a kind of popular literature genre,is so much welcomed by readers,in which real and interesting life stories are written in beautiful languages. It also records stories of role models, which deliver positive energy and give confidence and strength to readers. This report chooses the first four chapters of Tara Westover's Educated--A Memoir to conduct translation practice and research. On March 5th of 2020,the author found that the Chinese version of this book was selling online. As it was published on November 12th of 2019,which was two months later than the author started this research, she decided to continue the research after a discussion with her tutor. To cope with the situation, this report will compare the two versions of the translation and analyze the different strategies applied in both. This report applies Skopos Theory as the guidance to translate. The Skopos Theory is one of the branches of functional translation theory, which is widely applicable in many translation practices.According to the Skopos theory, one of the key factors determines the translation aims is the target audience who has their own cultural background information and expectations for translation and communication.Every translation has its audience, therefore, translation is created with some specific purposes and for certain target audience.Based on the three principles of Skopos Theory, which are Skopo(aim),fidelity and coherence.this report applies different strategies when translating. The aim of translation is to offer common readers Chinese version of this book,so the translation should be easy to understand and read, keep the language style and unique perspective of the book instead of using mature tones to replace the childish expressions in the book, therefore literal translation strategy would be preferred.Besides, translation should not be influenced by personal values but be faithful to the original work and leave the audience to reflect on the cultural differences. Some notes are needed to remove reading barriers. Moreover,to ensure the coherence and fluency of the translation, adaptation and amplification strategies will also be used.
