As one of the important factors influencing individual learning,learning style has been paid more and more attention by researchers.English is the third language for Mongolian English learners.It is particularly important to understand their learning styles and adopt effective teaching strategies.Adopting Questionnaire and English test paper as research instruments and taking 268 students as research subjects,this paper investigates English learning style of Mongolian senior high school students.It aims to explore general characteristics of Mongolian senior high school students' learning styles,gender differences in learning styles,and the relationship between learning styles and learning strategies as well as English proficiency.Research findings show that:(1)Mongolian senior high school students in Tongliao have multiple English learning styles.Students prefer auditory learning style the most,and individual learning style least.(2)Male and female students differ in group learning styles.Male students prefer group learning style than female students.(3)Auditory learning style is negatively related to affective strategy.Tactile learning style and memory strategy,kinesthetic learning style and affective strategy,and individual learning style and cognitive strategy and compensation strategy are all positively related.(4)Auditory,visual and individual learning styles have positive impact on English proficiency,while kinesthetic,tactile and group learning styles have negative impact on English proficiency.Aiming at the results of the research,this paper suggests that teachers should“student-centered” in teaching,raise the awareness of learning styles,pay attention to gender differences in learning styles,and choose teaching styles based on students' learning styles.Students in Mongolian senior high school should identify and stretch their learning styles,and choose appropriate learning strategies based on their learning styles to improve English proficiency.
