The Hebrew Bible contains exquisite narrative art, especially in Genesis, and Jacob's story is one of the most special parts of Genesis.Based on the theory of narratology, this paper attempts to explore the text of Jacob in the Hebrew bible, analyze its narrative art,and explore the narrative intention hidden behind it.In addition to the introduction and conclusion, this article is divided into three chapters:The first chapter analyzes the embedded narrative of Jacob's story, defines Jacob's story in three narrative frames, and analyzes the different presentation of Jacob's image by different narrative frames.Genesis 25:21 to 36:43 is based on the narrative framework of Jacob's story. In this framework,it mainly dealt with the struggle between Jacob and Esau,Laban and God.In this group,Jacob is full of desire and initiative. He always realizes his desire by uses stratagem and shows strong personal will. The narrative of Jacob's part of the story is embedded in the narrative framework of Joseph's story from Genesis 37 to 50.Within this narrative framework,Jacob was marginalized, his desire subsided,he was passive, and his personal will suffered setbacks. The irony created by the narrative reveals the meaning of taunting Jacob. The narrative of Jacob 's story is also embedded in the narrative framework of the patriarch 's story from chapter 12 to 50 of Genesis. In this frame,Jacob was placed against with the other patriarchs, which was more savvy, cunning, unyielding and rebellious. But in the prolonged historical time and higher horizon,Jacob is only the carrier of historical heritage and promise fulfillment, and all personal efforts seem insignificant. The second chapter analyzes the repetitive art and its intention in the narration of Jacob's story. The key word "worship" implies Jacob's desire and struggle for power,as well as his suffering in the impermanence of gain and loss."Send" reflects Jacob's hidden interest calculation and ruthlessness. The repetition of "silence" implies the somber scheme behind Jacob's quiet character."The beast ate him" suggests,in a precise coincidence,Jacob's disguise. The repetition of the two typical scenes of Isaac blessing Jacob and Jacob blessing Joseph's son resembles the latter's parody of the former, making Jacob's final control effort ridiculous. The similarities and differences in the repetition of three typical family encounters reveal the puzzling subtlety of the father-son relationship between Jacob and Joseph, and the elusive psychology of Jacob. The repetition of Jacob's preparation before seeing Esau and Jacob's preparation before sending Benjamin to Joseph showed that Jacob's consistent insight into humanity, calmness, and calmness, but also implied his futile actions. The third chapter analyzes the narrative voice.Throughout the narrative of Jacob's story, different voices were made around Jacob, including Jacob's own voice, the voice of the narrator, the voice of God and other characters. These different voices will convey different information and tendencies, contrast with each other,or even conflict with each other, and the authority of each voice. The size of the voice and the frequency of appearance are also different. In this way,at the level of text narrative, the multi-faceted image of Jacob is formed.Different readers will have different preferences in the process of information integration, which will eventually form a different image of Jacob. The narrative art presented in the narrative of Jacob's story makes this text more aesthetically valuable.Enhances the pleasure of text reading, and also increases the richness and complexity of the text, bringing diversity to readers' cognition and interpretation. And uncertainty, this is precisely why it can become a classic narrative work.
