A Case Study Of Vocal Performance Crossover In Modern China

Recent years have seen an upsurge of the integration of various musical elements and singing methods in the field of vocal music,which is generalized by the word"crossover".As a new vocabulary.crossover has only come into people's view in recent years.but if we look into its origin,it is not difficult to find that the practice of singing crossover can be dated back to as early as last century.At the beginning of the 20th century,bel canto was introduced into China and it collided with the Chinese domestic singing style.A group of vocal artists tried to find a new way in such a collision,among which Lang Yuxiu was one of the successful ones.Lang Yuxiu was known as one of the"four Sopranos" in the Republic of China.The artistic practices of her lifetime were related to vocal performance.Her vocal performance thought,singing practice,teaching concept and translation have a great influence on the history of vocal music art in China.She was one of the first group of people who went abroad to study bel canto singing.She had profound bel canto skills and an inclusive attitude towards Chinese folk songs.She devoted herself to learning from many folk artists and was familiar with various domestic singing forms,such as Peking Opera,Pingtan and local folk songs.She devoted her whole life to the combination of the scientific vocal method of Bel Canto and the vocalism of domestic songs,and made a lot of singing crossover exploration.This paper takes the practice and exploration of the singing crossover of Lang Yuxiu as research object.Through the collection,collation and analysis of her audio frequency.records and literature in singing crossover,it expounds on the causes,characteristics and impact on the development of vocal music at present.The first chapter of this paper is to sort out the artistic experience of Lang Yuxiu,with her two-stage learning experiences at home and abroad.It introduces her vocal learning and artistic practices in Shanghai Conservatory of Music,Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles and College-Conservatory of Music,University of Cincinnati,as well as her teaching and performance in China.The second chapter is the analysis and research of the specific practical activities of her singing crossover,which is the key part of the paper.This part discusses on the three different aspects of her vocal performance crossover exploration,namely,her study and performance of Peking Opera,Suzhou Pingtan and local folk songs.The third chapter analyzes the causes and characteristics of the singing crossover of Lang Yuxiu.It summarizes the style and characteristics of her vocal performance crossover by analyzing the causes of her artistic experiences,vocal music teaching and singing crossover practices.The fourth chapter probes into the influence on and significance in the development of present vocal music art of her vocal music singing crossover,mainly in terms of three aspects of vocal learning.vocal teaching and vocal performance.
