Kazuo Ishiguro, the 2017 Nobel Literature Prize winner,Japanese-born British novelist,is one of the most celebrated novelists in contemporary literary world. His sixth novel,Never Let Me Go(2005),is a representative work of international theme that breaks the boundaries of identities and ethnicities, presents the predicament of human existence and arouses reader's reflections on human nature. The novel takes human clones as protagonists and tells a chilly story of human beings' cultivating and harvesting human clones' organs for curing diseases and prolonging life. This thesis analyzes Kazuo Ishiguro's imaginary description of the peculiar representation of posthuman world, aims to explore the interactive relationship between human and posthuman in the high-tech background and the ethical dilemmas of human beings in this context, thus criticizes and dispels the mindset of anthropocentrism from the perspective of posthumanism. The thesis is divided into five chapters:Chapter One introduces the life experience and main works of Kazuo Ishiguro, summarizes the storyline of Never Let Me Go,analyzes the research status of the novel, and states the theoretical framework and the motivation of the thesis;Chapter Two analyzes the survival appearance of posthuman in the future tech world represented by human clones, explores the mutual transformation and interaction between human and posthuman, then breaks the ideological barrier of traditional thoughts of humanism;Chapter Three compares the kind "old world" of human clones with the cruel"new world" of human beings, and explores the process how human beings fall into ethical dilemma for their own self-interest in moral depravation, reveals the evil consequences of the abuse of science and anthropocentrism.Chapter Four focuses on the reasons why human beings fall into ethical predicament, and explores the measures of humans' redemption for reflection in ethical sense. The conclusion summarizes the main ideas of the thesis:through the imaginative description of the posthuman world, the novel presents the possibility and consequences of the posthuman existence represented by human clones. It strongly criticizes the evil consequences anthropocentrism of human supremacy bring about, and forces us to reflect on morality in the discourse of posthumanism, thus realizes the persistence and return of humanity to defuse the ethical crisis.
