The work,The Transcendence of the Self,is a sketch of Sartre's early theory of intentionality, laying a deep foundation for his later work,Being and nothing. In this work,Sartre aims to prove that the existence of ego as transcendent should be excluded from consciousness inside, consequently refuting Husserl's idea of "inner transcendence" of pure ego.Sartre acutely found that Husserl's intentionality structure presumes "Ego" dwelling in the intentional structure of consciousness,so it is necessary to deeply criticize and reconstruct Husserl's intentionality theory.Sartre constructs two arguments for this:One is to argue for the harmful and the unnecessary of Ego dwelling in consciousness through the constructing of intentionality theory;and the other is based on his intentionality theory to examine the structure of reflection activities and to prove that "Ego" is actually only the object of reflection activities,a kind of transcendence thing.the "inner transcendence" of ego, therefore,is impossible.
