Ananalysis Of Interpreter’s Subjectivity Consciousness Of "the2^nd Chengdu-denmark Forum On China’s Nursing Home Sector"

With the deepening of open and reform in China, communication between Chinaand other countries regarding political, cultural and commercial subjects occurs moreoften. Thus, interpretation as a device in communication becomes ever moreimportant. Based on the author’s interpreting experience, this thesis is my report andan analysis of the interpreter’s subjectivity consciousness of “The2ndChengdu-Denmark Forum on China’s Nursing Home Sector”. It presents thebackground, purpose and the significance of this forum. This thesis also covers theauthor’s preparation before the forum, duration and completion of it.The concepts of subjectivity and subjectivity consciousness derive fromphilosophy, which attract the attention of researchers day by day. At present, the focusof studies about interpretation is shifting from the study of its property, theinterpreting standards and skills to the study and discussion of the subject of it.Defining the interpreter as one of the subjects in the interpreting activity breaks thetraditional concept regarding interpreter as simply a megaphone or invisible person.Combined with the related interpreting theory, including Gile’s Effort Model andDeverbalization Interpreting Theory, this thesis studies how to adopt appropriatecopping tactics based on the interpreter’s subjectivity consciousness to deal withincidents in the practice of interpreting.The author analyzes the manifestation of subjectivity consciousness in the twosamples in the forum. Interpreters hold a non-neutral position and therefore obligatedto her employer. Meanwhile, the interpreter whom plays a role both as a talkingparticipator and a coordinator. One-on-one interpretation in the forum is very complexsince participators come from different cultures and backgrounds and they holddifferent objects in their participation in this forum. Thus, the interpreter should exerther subjectivity consciousness to give a positive feedback to her employer and to takeappropriate measures to cope with any problems. Using appropriate coping tactics, theinterpreter can facilitate the correspondence in some degree. From the feedback of heremployer, the interpreter learns that utilizing coping tactics based on subjectivityconsciousness not only helps with increasing the employer’s confidence to achieve fruitful results in their meetings, but also promotes the success of those meetings.Finally, the author gives some suggestions for future researchers that hope it wouldwill be of help to them.
