Nathaniel Hawthorne is an influential novelist of American Romanticism of the 19~thh century.Hawthorne is skilled in disclosing the darkness of the society, satirizing the evil, revealing the truth with the pen that seems ostensibly gentle but actually trenchant. He lays much emphasis on issues both moral and evil. The outstanding feature of his works is his description of the dark side of human nature and the society. The Minister's Black Veil is one of Hawthorne's early representative works, which was created in 1836.This story has received the most compliment of all his works and is the most often anthologized one as well.It tells a story about an approachable and well beloved minister,Mr.Hooper, who puts on a black veil one day, which causes a stir among the parishioners. The story gets wide attention as soon as it emerges, attracting critics to do assiduous study ever since its appearance.Critics from many countries study the story from history, biography, theology, psychoanalysis, linguistics, semiotics, narratology, and stylistics. However, hardly any scholars study the story from the perspective of schizoanalysis.Schizoanalysis is Deleuze and Guattari's philosophical thought and the rhizome is a core concept, and it is one of the most important and the most favored methodologies in literature study. The strange chain would be clearly raveled out with the six principles:the principle of connection, the principle of heterogeneity, the principle of multiplicity, the principle of asignifying rupture, the principle of cartography and the principle of decalcomania are utilized to analyze the character's strange rhizomatic behaviors and infer the rhizomatic thoughts. When analyzed from the perspective of Rhizome,The Minister's Black Veil is a rhizomatic narrative with four scenes which are widely different on the surface but are innately connected. With rhizomatic analysis, what is behind the black veil is revealed:as a hypocrite,he deserves mercy, disgust, hate and sorrow;yet, firmly keeping his inner promise,he deserves respect, love, praise and tears.
