A Study On The Transposition Of Modal Adverbs In Communicative Interaction

Translocation is a unique phenomenon in modern Chinese spoken language,scholars have done some discussions in the past,however,most of the research results focus on the general empirical description and interpretation of the form and meaning at the syntactic level,which is not deep enough from the perspective of function,pragmatics and prosody.This article attempts to use a new perspective and new theories to study the transposition of the modal adverb in the translocation phenomenon.First of all,we classify the transposition of modal adverbs according to different standards.It mainly classifies translocation from three aspects:the form of expression of adverbs,the semantic category of adverbs and the position of the turn where the translocation structure is located.After that,the sentence features of the transposition of the modal adverb are analyzed.Research shows:the transpositional modal adverbs are distributed in four types of sentences,but they also have a certain tendency to choose sentence types,modal adverbs have the largest proportion of transpositional declarative sentences,followed by exclamatory sentences,interrogative sentences and imperative sentences.An important factor in determining which sentence adverbs tend to be distributed at the end is the clarity of the information expressed by the modal adverbs.Secondly,the article expands the investigation into realistic spoken language,that is,from the perspective of communicative interaction to take care of the transposition of modal adverbs in spoken language,the conceptual function,communicative function and textual function of the phenomenon are investigated.Research shows:the conceptual function is mainly reflected in the expression of the expressive function of subsequent modal adverbs.In terms of interpersonal functions,subsequent modal adverbs can express the modality.When expressing modalities,it is often used in conjunction with mood auxiliary and modal auxiliary verbs,realizing interpersonal meaning.The expressed modality involves comparison,speculation,resoluteness,accident,etc.Subsequent adverbs can also express evaluation,but it expresses the meta-evaluation,the evaluation is mainly expressed from the perspective of certainty and grade difference.Adverbs as intervention and grading resources to express evaluation are reflected in attitude adjustment,including:cognitive attitude adjustment,evaluation attitude adjustment and emotional attitude adjustment.In terms of discourse function,they have the functions of information highlighting,text construction and presupposition indication.Usually the main part is highlighted,the follow-up itself is also highlighted.There is an internal relationship between the main part and its previous discourse,such as summary,explanation,and inference,subsequent modal adverbs indicate and highlight this correlation.Subsequent modal adverbs have the functions of end of turn and preset of turn,In particular,the adverbs with stop rhythm feature at the end of the sentence often indicate the end of the turn,providing clues for casting the next turn of judgment.Subsequent modal adverbs have certain function to indicate presets,such modal adverbs mainly include:coincidence category,accident category,theory category,rhetorical investigation category and reaffirmation category.once again,this article focuses on the analysis of the factors that affect the transposition of the modal adverb.The basic conclusions are:1)In spoken language,eligible adverbs that can be at the end are legal,modal adverbs at the end accord with spoken grammar.This can also be reflected in rhythm.It conforms to the characteristics of spoken language styles of long-short law and uneven law.2)The frequency of use has an impact on the transposition of modal adverbs,however,this influence is divided into two aspects:direct influence and indirect influence.Direct influence affects the possibility that the modal adverb is at the end,indirect influence affects the legitimacy that the modal adverb is at the end.3)Strongly subjective and highly grammatical modal adverbs are more likely to be at the end of sentences,subsequent modal adverbs are intended to express subjectivity and interactive subjectivity.Most of the modal adverbs that follow up are based on the consideration of face maintenance(including negative and positive face).It is also a requirement of politeness to maintain the passive and positive face of the listener.At the same time,most of the modal adverbs are added in order to abide by the principles of truth and appropriateness.5)The adverb of modal is at the end both to highlight the main part and to highlight itself.Usually,speaking the adverb of modal after the main part is spoken,thus making the speech more coherent.Finally,we also discussed the translocation problem of the special translocation"modal adverb+yes".The transposition of "modal adverb+yes" and the transposition of individual modal adverbs are essentially the same.The "yes",in "modal adverb+yes" is divided into judgment verb,modal adverb and intra-word components.Whatever the nature of "Yes",we tend to think of it as an auxiliary component with the modal adverb at the end,"modal adverb+yes" acts as a high-level predicate.
