Studies On The Coincidental Modal Adverbs

Modal adverb is one of the most flexible adverbs in this category. On the basis of previous studies, we try to do more thorough investigation about the coincidental modal adverb and try to draw some conclusions and analyze them.This article consists of five parts:Chapter one is the introduction. This chapter mainly summarizes previous research achievements ,and determines the range of study, how to write this paper and some methods to be applied in the process of writing .It covers 11 coincidental modal adverbs including"刚好,恰好,正好,恰巧,刚巧,碰巧,偏巧,正巧,恰,正2,刚2".Chapter two is the semantic study. This chapter will study from two aspects: the semantic features and semantic direction. Chapter three is the syntactic study. This chapter mainly studies these adverbs from the aspect of the position in a sentence, coherence with other types of modal adverbs and restriction mechanism. Finally it studies different types of verbs from the collocation with those modal adverbsChapter four is the pragmatic and textual study. First this chapter studies some situations from the aspect of different types of sentences in which whether these adverbs can be used or not and then studies from the pragmatic functions and finally studies the relations between the different parts of the same sentence from the aspect of discourse coherence.Chapter five is the summary. This section makes a general conclusion and also points out the insufficiency.
