The common trend of education reform and development is turning knowledge education into competence education.As the key concept of the new curriculum reform,key competences are becoming more and more important in China's education.Implementing key competences in the teaching process of various disciplines is an urgent task to further build a new curriculum system.Therefore,the goal of high school English courses in our country will also be changed from comprehensive ability to the cultivation of key competences of English subject,including language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.In order to make English teaching more rules-based,the Ministry of Education proposed the key competences of English subject in the Standards for General High School English Curriculum in 2017.To explore the implementation of the key competences of English subject in high school English teaching,this study takes 16 high school English teachers and 240 high school students in Yan'an City as research objects and the study is also mainly based on the theory of humanism,quantitative research of questionnaires,and supplement of classroom observation.The aim is to analyze two questions: 1)What is the current situation of the cultivation of key competences in high school English subject? 2)What are the factors that affect the cultivation of key competences in high school English subject? Through statistical analysis of teacher and student questionnaires,interviews with 16 high school English teachers,and observation and data collection of 30 English classes,the study found that the cultivation status of the four aspects of key competences of English subject in high school is different.The cultivation of high school students' language ability and cultural awareness is more optimistic,but the cultivation of thinking quality and learning ability still needs to be improved.
