| With the development of the times,China’s education changes from knowledgebased" to "literacy-based",and the cultivation of students’ key competences is the inevitable trend of the current educational changes.English,as an important course in China’s basic education,shoulders the important task of cultivating students’ key competences."High School English Curriculum Standards(2017 edition)" points out that the key competence of English subjects specifically includes students’ language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability,and learning ability is the key to developing students’ key competence of English subjects.Therefore,people should pay more attention to the cultivation of English learning ability of senior high school students.Senior high school is a period when students need to improve their learning efficiency and master effective learning methods.Improving students’ learning ability is of great significance for their multi-faceted development and lifelong learning.Under the guidance of humanism theory,constructivism theory and learning strategy,this study conducted research and investigation on a senior high school in Guilin.The subjects were 235 students and 5 teachers in the senior two.The author collected data through questionnaires and interviews for analysis.This study will explore the following three questions:(1)What is the current situation of English learning ability cultivation of high school students?(2)What are the main problems in the cultivation of high school students’ English learning ability?(3)What are the main causes of the problems in the English learning ability of senior high school students?First,to address the issue of English learning ability development,through the survey found that the English learning ability development of senior two’s students in a senior high school in Guilin is relatively good,but there is still room for further improvement.As far as students are concerned,the most of the students are very clear about the importance of learning English in high school and the meaning of learning English well for them and the students’ learning efficiency is generally higher.In terms of the use of English strategies,the students’ performance in the use of metacognitive,cognitive and emotional strategies is not ideal,but better in the use of communicative strategies.According to the data,students obtain learning resources mainly through textbooks,dictionaries and reference books,and less through the Internet,library and accumulation in life.From the lives,the students lack independent learning ability and inquisitive learning ability.As far as the teachers are concerned,although the teachers consciously guide students to understand and master various learning strategies in order to improve the students’ learning ability,they seldom use diversified teaching means and resources in daily teaching.There is a lack of instruction to guide students in mastering and using learning strategies,and consequently,the students’ motivation to learn is not enhanced.In addition,teachers’ teaching evaluation is mainly based on their subjective evaluation,which is too homogeneous to evaluate students objectively and comprehensively.Therefore,the author summarizes the main problems existing in the cultivation of high school students’ English learning ability:students’ language ability is weak,they have not formed good English learning habits,and the channels for students to obtain learning resources are too homogeneous and narrow.The teachers cannot effectively implement activities related to the English key competencies,the teacher evaluation methods are too homogeneous,and the teaching style of teachers is still teacheroriented,it does not highlight the subjectivity of students’ curriculum learning.Lastly,according to the analysis of the study results,the main reasons for the development of high school students’ English learning ability are focused on the following two aspects.From the perspective of students,they have little interest in English learning,lack of intrinsic motivation.In the process of English learning,they have not yet developed the habit of independent learning and the consciousness of active inquiry thinking.Furthermore,the teachers lack opportunities for educational exchange and learning,the English teachers lack a deep understanding of the key competence and learning ability of English subjects,which is difficult to translate into understandable knowledge to teach students.Finally,the evaluation system generally ignores the students’ self-evaluation and peer evaluation,cannot be more comprehensive and objective evaluation of students.In addition,in the daily teaching process,students’ independent learning and inquiry learning are not paid enough attention to,and the cultivation of students’ learning ability is weak.Based on the results of questionnaire survey and interview,this study puts forward some suggestions from the perspective of the students and the teachers.From the students’ point of view:first,students need to correct their learning attitudes and cultivate their internal learning motivation;second,they need to explore the learning rules and find a suitable learning method;in addition,they need to broaden their learning channels and make full use of learning resources;finally,they need to cultivate good learning habits and improve their learning efficiency.From the teachers’ point of view:first,they should actively participate in education training to improve their professionalism;second,they should give scientific guidance to students on the use of learning strategies;third,they should make reasonable use of network resources to broaden learning channels;fourth,they should enrich the content and methods of teaching evaluation.It is hoped that the above suggestions can improve the current learning situation of high school students,so as to enhance their learning efficiency and promote the development of their English learning ability. |
