Effects Of New Historicism On Chinese Contemporary Literature Since 1990s

In the 1980 s,the Chinese academia ups and downs in the tide of western literary theory,including the New historicism.At that stage,Chinese Literature was in the state of a blind temptation.After entering the 1990 s,Chinese Contemporary Literature(including literary theory and literature)gradually entered into the phase of reflection and innovation,the New historicism derivative a series of local practice and Cultural poetics and neo-historical novels are the results of the localization of New historicism.In view of the lack of systematic and comprehensive research on the influence of New historicism on Chinese Contemporary Literature since the 1990 s,this dissertation will take New historicism as the basic clue and trace the cultural poetics and the creation of neo-historical novels under the influence of New historicism.After the translation and quotation of New historicism in China,its “historical textuality” and “textual histority” has been extended and surpassed in Chinese academia,which contributed to the construction of Chinese cultural poetics theory,formed two academic groups: Tong Qingbing as the core and Jiang Shuzhuo as the core.They argue that the creators of literature and the recipient would return to historical context,amplify social identity such as gender,race,identity,power,and restore the sound obscured by the dominant culture,and enrich the Chinese literary theory.These practices set up a typical study for other western literary theory how to be accepted.In terms of literary creation,Su Tong,Mo Yan,Ge Fei,Ye Zhaoyan and others has completed the extension from the root-seeking literature,avant-garde literature and neo-realism literature to neohistorical novels,which disintegrated the grand narrative of the revolution and opened up new ideas for the creation of historical themes.Although New historicism has exerted an important influence on the contemporary literary world,providing a reference and a new way of thinking for the criticism and practice of “historical literature”,its limitations are very obvious.The ambiguous selfidentity and its excessive praise of the anecdotal doctrine make the historical truth lost in the fragmented memory,unable to grasp.To sum up,this dissertation on the basis of analyzing the origin and development of the new historicism itself,makes a specific investigation on how the theory is accepted the Chinese theory and neo-historical novels,explains its applicability across contexts,and finally evaluates the contribution and limitations of the theory in the history of Chinese Contemporary Literature.
